Time flies when your having fun. It’s been another year of Software Freedom Day. Previously, I was able to present GIMP at MAD Workshop in General Santos City, Philippines. This time, I was given the chance to speak with a bigger audience in a magnanimous event called Software Freedom Day 2008 (Davao Celebration). Details on this event at feathevane’s and neural.brew’s post.
Here’s the video presentation provided by, non other than, the Filipino Blender Artist, Ragingmon. More of Ragingmon’s Software Freedom Day 2008 – Davao coverage video album
Please don’t mind tons of grammatical errors. hehehe.
And on more thing. I want to point out another error when I said about Cinepaint.
Studios such as Sony Pictures Imageworks and many smaller studios use CinePaint. Disney, DreamWorks, and Pixar funded Crossover (Wine) to make Adobe Photoshop for Windows run nicely on Linux and that’s what they use. Some studios use proprietary or internally developed tools. CinePaint is open source software. Nobody is obligated to tell us they use it. Studios use many Linux motion picture applications, not just CinePaint. This list of studios using CinePaint is just some we know about. From Cinepaint’s website.
Gotta have to be careful next time. Whew, the careless me. ahihi.
September 4, 2008. Bryan’s Grill & Café, Davao City, Philippines. Welcome my dear readers. First of all, I wanna extend my gratitude to the people behind WordCamp Philippines, specially to Mr. Bloggie Robillo for the undying effort on making WordCamp Davao a success. WordCamp Davao was a mini event of the WordCamp Philippines 2008. It was an informal gathering attended by individuals and groups in Davao City who were interested in WordPress.
Hello again my beloved visitors. Due to a busy schedule of work, I haven’t updated this place for quite awhile. This might be a little late. But anyways, better be late than never.
May 15-17, 2008. STI Building, Santiago St. General Santos City, Philippines ~ I assisted my colleague, Mr. Nathaniel Jayme (Philippine’s XUL Master), on a 3 day training/workshop called the MAD WORKSHOP or the Mozilla Application Development Workshop. He trained an approximately 20 participants in different IT sectors on how to create a XUL application and delved in to Mozilla Programming. The same technology used by Firefox, Thunderbird, Songbird, Miro,&Komodo IDE to mention a few. It was also an opportunity to introduce our ongoing project FFEHR(pronounced efer), an Electornic Health Record System, and the underlying technology that has been used.
In relation to my earlier post, GIMP 2.4 has released.
Yes, it is true. The very much awaited GIMP 2.4 is now available for download. Not only that, come and visit their website and see that they made such tremendous improvements compared to what they had before. Their website looks refreshing and they purposely made this to celebrate the release of GIMP 2.4. I wouldn’t be talking much of the content on their website ‘coz they deserve, the people behind GIMP, a visit from you guys. But don’t worry, below are links that you could jump start a tour. So grab a cup of coffee and be mystified by the simple yet very capable GIMP.
Davao City’s 1st Software Freedom Day celebration, held last September 15, 2007, at the Social Hall of the University of South Eastern Philippines was of a magnificent success.
Spearheaded by the DabaweGNU Group with it’s President Mr. Holden Hao along with it’s Board of Trustees (1.) Mr. Nathaniel Jayme, (2.) Mr. Erwin Diansay & Mr. Charles Pino. (3.) Engr. Jose Catubigan, Jr. (4.) Mr. Val Quimno who initiated the USEP FOSS Club (The steering committee of the event).
Kaiban Davao’s participation on the event sparkled the day with their original compositions in an acoustic version. Kaiban Davao shared their plans on compiling an independent album which then be released under Creative Commons License. That would be an eye-opener for the local artist’s of Davao City.
Many participating groups and individuals attended the celebration that made the event more successful! To mention one was the Honorable Councilor Pete Lavina who rendered a speech which uplifted the spirits of the FOSS advocates inside the Hall.
